Birthday or Janamdin Puja is a special Vedic ritual performed to seek blessings for health, prosperity, happiness, and a long life on the occasion of one’s birthday. This puja is dedicated to the individual's Ishta Devta (chosen deity) along with Lord Ganesha, Navgrahas (nine planetary deities), and family deities to invoke their divine blessings for the coming year. The Birthday / Janamdin Puja begins with Swasti Vachan (recitation of auspicious hymns) and Shanti Path (prayers for peace) to create a calm and sacred atmosphere. This is followed by Sankalp (pledge), where the devotee’s intentions and prayers are expressed, dedicating the puja to their well-being and success in the coming year. The ritual starts with Ganesh Sthapan (installation of Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles), followed by Kalash Sthapan (placement of the sacred water pot), and Shiva Parvati Sthapan (installation of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, symbolizing harmony and blessings).

Further installations include Navgrah Sthapan (installation of the nine planetary deities), Brahma Sthapan (installation of Lord Brahma), and Agni Sthapan (invocation of the fire deity). The Invocation of all Gods and Goddesses is performed, along with the chanting of the Navgrah Mantra Japa to harmonize planetary influences. The ritual proceeds with Punyaha Vachan Kalash (purification ceremony) and recitation of sacred mantras including Shiv Gauri Mantra, Lord Kartikeya Mantra, and Lord Ganesha Mantra to seek their blessings.

The main worship involves the Shiva Parivar Puja, dedicated to the divine family of Lord Shiva, followed by a Homam (fire ritual) with offerings such as honey, ghee, sugar, sesame seeds, ashtagandh, sandalwood powder, and Navgrah Samidha (sacred woods) to invoke the deities' blessings. The ceremony concludes with Purnahuti (final offering), Aarti (offering of light), and distribution of Prasad to the Brahmins, symbolizing the reception of divine grace and protection.
